The short answer

Most of the time, products do not show on Google Shopping for one of five reasons: they are still being reviewed, they were disapproved, free listings are not turned on, your feed stopped updating, or your Merchant Center account has a problem.

Open Merchant Center, go to Products, and look up one product you cannot find. The status Google shows next to it tells you which fix you need.

Start here: what does Merchant Center say?

Do not start by searching Google for your own product. Search results change by person, place, and device, so that test tells you very little. Start in Merchant Center instead.

Every product has a status. Google uses five of them: Under review, Processing, Approved, Limited, and Not approved. There is also a Visibility column that shows whether the product is set to show at all. Google notes that hidden products are archived after 14 days.

StatusWhat it meansWhat to do
Under reviewGoogle is still checking the product.Wait. See reason 1 below.
ProcessingGoogle just received the data and is working on it.Give it a day, then check again.
ApprovedThe product is allowed to show.If you still see no results, see reasons 2, 10, and 11.
LimitedThe product shows in some places but not all.Open the Needs attention tab and fix the warning.
Not approvedThe product cannot show on Google.Read the exact issue and fix it at the source.

Once you know the status, use the list below to find the cause.

The 11 most common reasons and how to fix them

1. Your products are still under review

New products do not go live right away. Google says reviews can take up to 3 to 5 business days for Shopping ads and a few weeks for other features, such as free listings. Brand new accounts and very large first feeds usually sit at the long end of that range.

Fix: Wait out the normal window. If products are still under review well past it, look for errors in the Needs attention tab. A stuck review often means Google found a problem it has not flagged clearly yet.

2. Free listings are not turned on

Google Shopping has two sides: free listings and paid Shopping ads. They use the same product feed, but they are switched on separately. Paid ads need a Google Ads campaign. Free listings need to be turned on in Merchant Center.

Many stores set up one and assume they have both. If you only turned on ads and your budget runs out, your products disappear.

Fix: In Merchant Center, check which ways of showing your products are active. Our guide to Google Shopping free listings walks through how they work.

3. A required product detail is missing

Google needs basic facts for every product: an ID, a title, a description, a link to the product page, an image link, a price, and availability. It also asks for product identifiers such as brand and GTIN (the barcode number) when the product has them.

Fix: Fix the missing detail in your store or feed, not only inside Merchant Center. If you edit it only in Merchant Center, the next sync from your store can overwrite your change.

4. Your price or stock does not match your website

Google compares your feed with your product page. If the feed says $49 and the page says $59, or the feed says in stock and the page says sold out, the product gets flagged. If it keeps happening, it can put the whole account at risk.

Common causes:

  • A sale price on the site that the feed did not pick up
  • Prices that only show after login, which is common on B2B and wholesale sites
  • A currency switcher that shows a different price to Google
  • Variants (sizes, colors) with different prices mapped to one feed item

Fix: Pull the feed and the product page from the same data. Add product structured data to the page with the same price and availability. For wholesale sites, show a public price on any product you send to Google.

5. Shipping or return details are missing

Google asks for shipping costs in countries that require them. Missing or wrong shipping is one of the most common reasons products get held back.

Fix: Set up shipping and returns in Merchant Center, and make sure they match what your website says. If your site says free shipping over $75, your Merchant Center settings should say the same.

6. Your account is suspended for misrepresentation

This one stops every product at once. Misrepresentation means Google does not trust the store enough to show it. It usually comes down to missing or unclear business information, not bad intent.

Check that your site clearly shows:

  • How to contact you: phone, email, and a business address or service area
  • A clear return and refund policy
  • Real product photos and honest descriptions
  • Prices, shipping costs, and taxes before checkout, with no surprise fees
  • A secure, working checkout
  • No claims you cannot back up, such as "best price guaranteed" with no terms

Fix: Fix everything on the list first, then request a review. Do not request a review after fixing only one thing. Failed reviews slow the process down.

7. Your feed stopped updating

Google says all products expire from Merchant Center 30 days after their last refresh, unless you added them by hand inside Merchant Center. If your feed app disconnected or a scheduled fetch started failing, your products can quietly expire.

Fix: Check the last update date on your data source. Reconnect the app or fix the fetch. On Shopify, open the Google and YouTube app and check its sync status.

8. Your images break the rules

Google wants a clear photo of the actual product. Images get flagged for things like watermarks, promo text such as "50% off", logos covering the product, placeholder images, or photos that are too small.

Fix: Use a clean product photo as the main image. Put lifestyle photos and graphics in the additional images field instead.

9. The country, language, or currency is wrong

If your feed targets the wrong country, uses the wrong language, or lists prices in the wrong currency, your products will not show where your buyers are.

Fix: Check the country and language on your data source and make sure prices use the currency of the country you are targeting.

10. Your Shopping ads campaign is filtering them out

This one only applies to paid ads. Your products can be approved in Merchant Center and still never show as ads because of the campaign.

  • The wrong Merchant Center account is linked to Google Ads
  • Listing groups or filters exclude the products
  • The campaign is paused or limited by budget
  • Bids are too low to win any auctions

Fix: Check eligibility in Merchant Center first, then check the campaign. If a whole category is missing, look for a listing group or feed label filter.

11. They are live, just not winning

Approved does not mean guaranteed. Google picks which products to show based on how well they match the search, plus the quality of your data and your price.

Fix: Improve the data Google uses to match your products:

  • Write titles that say what the product is, then the key details: brand, type, size, color, or material
  • Add GTINs wherever the product has one
  • Fill in product type and product category
  • Keep prices competitive, or make your value clear with shipping and returns
  • Collect product reviews

Then judge results in Merchant Center reports, not by searching for yourself.

A quick way to find the problem

  1. Pick one product you cannot find on Google.
  2. Look it up in Merchant Center under Products.
  3. Read its status and visibility.
  4. Open the Needs attention tab and read the exact issue Google lists.
  5. Fix the issue in your store or feed, at the source.
  6. Wait for the next sync, then check the status again.
  7. If many products share the same issue, fix the template, app setting, or feed rule that causes it.

Why this matters more in 2026

Your Merchant Center feed now powers more than the Shopping tab. Google's AI Mode shopping pulls from the Shopping Graph, which Google says holds more than 50 billion product listings, with more than 2 billion refreshed every hour.

In January 2026, Google also launched the Universal Commerce Protocol, an open standard that lets shoppers check out from eligible merchants inside AI Mode and the Gemini app. Your Merchant Center data is the starting point for all of it.

It is not only Google. Research reported in September 2026 found that most ChatGPT shopping picks now come from merchant product feeds. We cover that in how to get your products into ChatGPT shopping results.

A broken feed used to cost you one channel. Now it can cost you several.

Questions and answers

How long does it take for products to show on Google Shopping?

Google says reviews can take up to 3 to 5 business days for Shopping ads and a few weeks for other features such as free listings. New accounts and large first feeds usually take the longest.

Why are my products approved but not showing?

Approved means a product is allowed to show, not that it will show for every search. Check that free listings are turned on, that your ads campaign is not filtering the product out, and that your titles, GTINs, and prices are strong enough to compete.

Is Google Shopping free?

Free listings cost nothing. Shopping ads are paid per click through Google Ads. Both use the same Merchant Center product feed.

Do I need a GTIN for Google Shopping?

If your product has a GTIN from the manufacturer, include it. If you make your own products and they have no GTIN, you can tell Google that in your feed instead of leaving the field blank.
