Colorado SEO company for brands losing their own name to retailers.
Boulder and Denver produce outstanding outdoor and natural products brands that cannot win a search for their own product. Retailers and marketplaces hold those results, so the demand you created goes to somebody else.

Your stockists are ranking for your products, and you are not.
Search your own product name. If REI, a marketplace or a regional retailer appears above your own page, the reason is almost always the same: you gave them the copy, they have more authority, and there is nothing on your page that is not also on theirs.
- The same product description on your site and on every stockist
- Stronger domains winning on identical content, which is expected behaviour
- Your own brand plus product terms returning somebody else
- Marketplace listings capturing demand you created with your own marketing
- No reason for a search engine to prefer your version
- And no penalty involved, which is why nobody notices it is happening
What only you can publish.
The left column is what every retailer already has. The right column is what none of them will ever bother to write.
Where the demand is and who currently holds it.
The first group should be yours by right and frequently is not. The rest is where a brand can build genuine advantage.
Your own products
Should be yours, usually is not.
- [brand] [product name]
- [brand] [product] review
- [brand] [product] sizing
- where to buy [brand] [product]
Category and use
Contested, and winnable with real content.
- best [product type] for [conditions]
- [product] for [specific activity]
- lightweight vs durable [product type]
- what [product] do you need for [use]
Materials and construction
Where a serious brand separates itself.
- what is [material] and how does it perform
- [material] vs [material] for [use]
- how is [product type] made
- is [treatment] worth it
Care and longevity
Post purchase, loyalty building, link earning.
- how to wash [material]
- how to repair [product]
- how to re-treat [fabric]
- how long should [product] last
Four things to add that no retailer will.
Each one adds text that exists nowhere else, which is the entire mechanism by which you beat a stronger domain.
Why it is built this way
The design decisions, the trade offs, what you chose not to do. Nobody else knows this and nobody else will write it.
Materials and testing
Where the material comes from, why it was chosen, where and how the product was tested, and what conditions it is not for.
Honest range comparison
Which of your own products suits which use, including when the cheaper one is the right answer. A retailer stocking two models cannot do this.
Care, repair and lifespan
Heavily searched, entirely unclaimed, and it reduces returns and builds the loyalty that repeat purchase depends on.
These are the cheapest terms you will ever win.
Brand and product terms have a property that no other search has: the intent is unambiguous and it is about you. Somebody typing your brand name and a product name has already decided. There is no persuasion left to do and no competitor to displace in the buyer's mind. The only thing standing between that person and your site is a stockist with a stronger domain.
That makes it the highest return work available, and it is routinely skipped because brands assume those terms are already theirs. They usually are not. Running the check takes ten minutes: search your brand plus your five best selling products and count how many of the results you own.
The mechanism behind the loss is not mysterious and it is not a penalty. You supplied the same product copy to every stockist, they published it, and their domains carry more authority than yours. Given two identical pages, the stronger domain wins. That is expected behaviour rather than a problem to be appealed.
Which means the fix is entirely in your control. Stop publishing the page your retailers already have. Write the one only you could write, covering the design, the materials, the testing, the honest comparison and the care. That page has text that exists nowhere else, which is the only argument a search engine needs.

This is not a conflict, and it helps to say so.
Brands sometimes hesitate here because it feels like competing with the stockists who carry them. It is not. Owning your own brand search builds the brand demand retailers benefit from, and a where to buy page sends that demand straight back to them.
- Owning your brand terms grows the demand your stockists sell into
- A where to buy page routes that demand to the retailers carrying you
- Differentiated product pages do not compete on price with anybody
- Retailers rarely want to write design and materials content anyway
- The alternative is a marketplace capturing the demand instead
What is this product actually like and who should buy it?
Assistants describe your product from whatever was published.
When somebody asks about your product, an assistant builds the answer from what exists online. If the only text about it is the same description on twelve retailer sites, that is what gets repeated, without any of the reasoning behind the product.
- Design and materials detail published only on your site
- Honest guidance on who the product suits and who it does not
- Consistent product facts across your site and every stockist
- Product schema so an assistant can verify what it repeats
