The short answer

Flooring is chosen by several people: an architect or designer who specifies it, a dealer or distributor who sells it, a contractor who installs it and an owner who pays for it. Each one searches in a different way.

SEO for flooring manufacturers means giving each of them what they need: real product pages instead of PDFs, easy access to spec sheets and sustainability documents, a working dealer locator and clear lead times.

Dalton by the numbers

Dalton is still the center of the U.S. carpet industry.

  • The New Georgia Encyclopedia says more than 80 percent of the tufted carpet made in America is produced within a 100-mile radius of Dalton.
  • Major companies in and near Dalton include Shaw Industries, Mohawk Industries and Engineered Floors. Mohawk is based in Calhoun, about 20 miles away.
  • In 2024, the head of the Dalton-Whitfield County Joint Development Authority said Engineered Floors, Mohawk and Shaw together employ about 14,000 people locally.

Around those big names is a large supply base: yarn spinners, backing and adhesive makers, dye houses, machine shops, sample makers, trucking companies and warehouses. Many of them sell only to other businesses, and many have websites that have not changed in years.

A tough market in 2026

The last two years have not been easy for flooring.

  • Demand is down. Floor Focus reported that flooring industry volume was likely down by high single digits in 2025. The high end of the market held up better than the low and middle.
  • Tariffs raised prices on imports. In 2025, Mohawk, Engineered Floors and Shaw announced price increases of about 8 percent on imported products, while keeping prices on most U.S.-made products the same.
  • Sourcing is shifting. China's share of U.S. vinyl tile and LVT imports fell from 42 percent to 19 percent in dollars over the first three quarters of 2025, according to Market Insights, as imports moved to countries like Vietnam and Thailand.
  • More is being made at home. Shaw invested about 90 million dollars to more than double resilient flooring capacity at its Ringgold, Georgia plant by 2026.

What this means for your website: "made in the USA" and short lead times are real selling points again. So is a clear answer to "is this in stock?" If your site does not say those things plainly, buyers will assume you are like everyone else.

Most flooring websites are built for the homeowner and forget the other four. Yet the other four decide most of the volume. We cover this on our SEO for building materials suppliers page.

What to build on your website

Product pages, not just PDFs

Many mills put specs only in PDF files. Search engines and AI tools can read PDFs, but they rank real web pages much better. Put the key specs in the page itself: construction, fiber, weight, sizes, colors, warranty and where it can be used. Then link the PDF for people who want to download it.

Collection pages by use

Group products the way buyers think: carpet tile for offices, LVT for healthcare, broadloom for multifamily. Each collection page can rank for that use.

A document library that can be found

Specifiers look for Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), Health Product Declarations (HPDs), installation guides and warranties. Give each document a short web page that explains what it covers, with the file attached. That way, a search for your product name plus "EPD" lands on your site.

A dealer locator with real pages

If you sell through dealers, a map widget is not enough. Pages for the regions or cities you cover help people find where to buy, and they help your dealers too.

A clear sample path

Samples are how flooring gets specified. Make ordering a sample a two-click job and track every request as a lead.

If you supply the mills

Yarn, backing, adhesives, dyes, machine parts, logistics: the Dalton supply chain sells to a short list of large buyers, plus mills in other states and countries. Your buyers are engineers and purchasing managers. They search for a material, a spec or a service, not a company. Build one page per product line and one per service, with real specs, and add your certifications and capacity.

If you are a distributor competing with the brands you carry, our Georgia SEO page explains how distributors win searches the brand does not.

Local search and AI answers

Showrooms and outlets. If you run a showroom or outlet in Dalton, your Google Business Profile matters as much as your website. Keep hours, photos and categories current, and ask happy customers for reviews.

AI answers. Designers now ask AI tools questions like "which carpet tile brands have EPDs?" Those tools pull from pages that state facts clearly. Keep product names, specs and certifications the same everywhere they appear, and add Product structured data to product pages.

A simple 90-day plan

  1. Pick your top 20 products and move their key specs from PDFs onto real web pages.
  2. Build three to five collection pages by use, such as healthcare or multifamily.
  3. Give each EPD, HPD and installation guide its own short page.
  4. Add stock status or typical lead times where you can.
  5. Fix your dealer locator and add regional pages.
  6. Make sample ordering simple and track it as a lead.
  7. Update your Google Business Profile for every showroom and plant.
  8. Measure sample requests, dealer inquiries and quotes, not just traffic.

The bottom line on SEO for flooring manufacturers

In a slow market, the mills and distributors that are easiest to find, specify and order from win the projects that are out there. Most of that comes down to real product pages, documents people can find and a clear path to samples and dealers.

Questions and answers

Why is Dalton, Georgia called the Carpet Capital of the World?

More than 80 percent of the tufted carpet made in America is produced within a 100-mile radius of Dalton, according to the New Georgia Encyclopedia. Shaw, Mohawk and Engineered Floors all have major operations in the area.

How do flooring manufacturers get more leads online?

Publish real product pages with specs, collection pages by use, easy sample ordering and a working dealer locator. Architects, dealers and contractors each search differently, so each needs pages written for them.

Should flooring specs be in PDFs or on web pages?

Both. Put the key specs on the web page so search engines and AI tools can read and rank them, then link the PDF for people who want to download it.

Do EPDs help flooring SEO?

They help specifiers find you. Give each EPD or HPD a short web page that names the product and explains what the document covers, so searches for your product plus EPD land on your site.

Is SEO worth it in a slow flooring market?

In a slow market, fewer projects mean each one matters more. Buyers compare more options online before they call, so being easy to find and easy to specify can win work your competitors miss.
